Successful recruitment starts with daring to choose.

Scarce profiles Questions om sharp choices

Labor market scarcity has long ceased to be a surprise. Yet many organizations still recruit as if anything is possible. As if the perfect profile is out there somewhere and just needs to be found. In practice, this often leads to frustration. Vacancies remain unfilled, procedures take longer than planned, and expectations are adjusted along the way. Sometimes even so late that the final match turns out less well than hoped. That is precisely why scarce profiles require sharp choices.

Not everything has to fit perfectly.

Many job profiles are structured around the ideal scenario. All experience must already be present, all skills must be proven, and the candidate must be immediately fully deployable. But in a tight labor market, that rarely works. It helps to first take a step back and critically examine what is truly needed. Which skills are essential from day one? What can someone learn in the first few months? And which requirements actually arose out of habit, not necessity? These questions make the difference between continuing to search and actually finding the right person.

Dare to adapt to the market

Scarcity also means that the labor market sometimes demands something different from what organizations are accustomed to. Candidates have more choice and expect clarity regarding development, flexibility, and impact. Organizations that successfully recruit in scarce markets understand this. They look not only at candidates but also at their own proposition. Does the offering still match what talent is looking for today? And does the role design still align with market reality? Sometimes this means adjusting expectations, modifying the profile, and sometimes even redesigning the role. That requires courage, but often yields much more than continuing to search for the unattainable.

Focus accelerates recruitment

Organizations that fail to make clear choices often get stuck in the search for the ideal candidate. The process slows down, doubt grows, and ultimately pressure arises to make compromises. Companies that do make choices, on the other hand, gain focus. They know what to select for, where they can be flexible, and which qualities truly make the difference. This clarity accelerates recruitment and increases the likelihood of a sustainable match.

Choosing smarter instead of searching harder

Scarcity forces organizations to look at recruitment differently. Not just as a search for candidates, but as a strategic process in which choices are central.
